Celestial Mechanics

Tor Vergata University in Rome

Research

The Celestial Mechanics group at Tor Vergata studies subjects related to Dynamical Systems and Celestial Mechanics. The main topics are the following:
  • Kolmogorov-Arnold-Moser (KAM) theory in conservative and conformally symplectic systems

  • Development of optimal estimates in the framework of the Kolmogorov-Arnold-Moser (KAM) theory and Nekhoroshev theorem

  • Dynamics of nearly-integrable systems with dissipation

  • Spin-orbit interaction, the Lagrangian equilibrium points, the J2 problem and the three-body problem

  • Capture into resonance

  • Development of numerical methods for the computation of the break-down threshold of invariant (rotational and librational) surfaces

  • Orbital determination and space debris dynamics

  • Space Manifold Dynamics (SMD)

  • Construction of periodic orbits and investigation of the behaviour of resonances in Celestial Mechanics

  • Orbital dynamics of extrasolar planetary systems
