Vietri sul Mare

It is within kilometers from Salerno and marks the beginning of the so-called "Costiera Amalfitana". With short trips it is possible to reach Positano, Sorrento, Ercolano, Paestum and the Vesuvio and, by boat, Capri, Ischia and Procida islands.

How to reach Vietri sul Mare

You will probably arrive by airplane either at Rome, Fiumicino Airport (FCO) (named "Leonardo Da Vinci"), or at Naples, Capodichino Airport. In both cases you will find hereafter the instructions (A or B, respectively) to reach by train the Salerno Railway Station (Salerno), unless you arrive in Capodichino and can profit from the direct bus Capodichino-Salerno (see B* below). If you arrive by bus in Naples, you can directly read instruction B2.

Once in Salerno you may reach Vietri by bus.
Take bus n. 4 or bus n. 9 from Salerno Railway Station to the first stop in Vietri. You should buy the ticket ("UNICO Salerno", also called "urbano", euro 1,10) at the railway station's newsagent or at the CSTP office, and stamp it on the bus. Remember that the ticket is valid for 90 minutes.
Another possibility is to take a taxi at the cost of about euros 10 from Salerno Railway Station Square directly to Vietri.

In the map below, you find the location of Lloyd's Baia Hotel in Vietri sul Mare.

A. From Rome Airport (Leonardo da Vinci) to Salerno

You have the following two steps.

A1. From Rome Airport (Leonardo da Vinci) to Rome Railway Station (Roma Termini)
You may reach Rome Railway Station (Roma Termini) from Rome Airport (Leonardo da Vinci) by train; a taxi is not advisable because of the distance and price. Once at the Arrival Exit follow the signs to the Railway Station inside the Airport (Fiumicino Aeroporto) and take the train to Rome Railway Station (Roma Termini): the ticket must be bought at the FS office (euros 11,00) and stamped at the yellow machines before getting on the train. At the same office you can also buy the ticket from Rome Railway Station (Roma Termini) to Salerno Railway Station (Salerno).

Remember to stamp the ticket at the yellow machines before getting on the train.

A2. From Rome Railway Station (Roma Termini) to Salerno Railway Station (Salerno)
Once in Rome Railway Station (Roma Termini) get a train to Salerno Railway Station (Salerno) (about euros 20 for IC trains or euros 25 for ES trains).

Remember to stamp the ticket at the yellow machines before getting on the train.

There is an on-line official timetable of the Italian Railways (FS) and you can use the names of the railway stations we quoted above in parentheses (Fiumicino Aeroporto, Roma Termini, Salerno) as departure or arrival stations.

B. From Naples Airport (Capodichino) to Salerno Railway Station (Salerno) by train

You have the following two steps, unless you can profit from the direct bus Capodichino-Salerno (see B* below).

B1. From Naples Airport (Capodichino) to Naples Railway Station (Napoli Centrale)
At Naples Airport (Capodichino) you may take the bus 3S (orange bus) just in front of the Airport entrance (every 15 minutes): the tickets (euro 1,00) are sold inside the Airport at the newsagents and should be stamped on the bus. You have to get down at "Piazza Garibaldi" (Garibaldi Square) and walk a little bit through the square towards Naples Railway Station (Napoli Centrale). There's also a direct bus departing from the parking lot just on the right of the Airport Arrival gate ("Alibus" - ticket on board about euros 3). Another possibility is to take a taxi (about euros 20).

B2. From Naples Railway Station (Napoli Centrale) to Salerno Railway Station (Salerno)
Once in Naples Railway Station (Napoli Centrale) get a train to Salerno Railway Station (Salerno) (euros 3.10 for regional trains, euros 5.37 for IC trains and euros 10.07 for ES trains).

Remember to stamp the ticket at the yellow machines before getting on the train.

There is an on-line official timetable of the Italian Railways (FS) and you can use the names of the railway stations we quoted above in parentheses (Napoli Centrale, Salerno) as departure or arrival stations. For the sake of completeness, you should consider also departures from "Napoli Piazza Garibaldi", which is another railway station, exactly under Napoli Centrale (there is a direct stairway).

B*. From Naples Airport (Capodichino) to Salerno Railway Station (Salerno) by bus

At Naples Airport (Capodichino) you may take the SITA bus running directly to Salerno (euros 7). This bus runs only 4 times a day, and not on Sunday, therefore you must check carefully the timetable. The bus is leaving from the street ahead of the Airport, but you have to walk some 300 meters to reach the bus-stop (it is not evident from indications).
