CALL FOR APPLICATIONS, ACADEMIC YEAR 2019/20

The call for applications for PhD programs in University of Rome Tor Vergata is open until May 30, 2019 at 4 PM. The official announcement (in italian) is available on the website of the University PhD Office . The announcement includes a general part and separate specific instructions for each subject. Below we give an (unofficial) English translation of the specific instructions in the announcement for the program in Mathematics. PHD PROGRAM IN MATHEMATICS

The selection is done by an evaluation of the documents submitted and through an oral examination.
Candidates should submit their applications electronically following the rules explained on the university Phd office website . They should submit any qualification, document or publication which could be considered for the evaluation, in particular they are suggested to include:
(i) a Curriculum Vitae with the details of achieved degree(s), relevant examination results and/or results of degree requirements with assessment and/or grade (i.e., transcript details), and the date of degree achievement. Candidates who have not yet achieved their Master degree at the time of application should include a full documentation of the exams already taken.
(ii) the master thesis, or a description of its content.
(iii) a statement explaining the motivations of the candidate for entering the PhD, possibly including a research program (compulsory).

In addition, candidates should ask at least 1 and at most 3 academics to write a letter of recommendation. Recommendation letters should be sent by e-mail to the address dottamm@mat.uniroma2.it with the subject: Recommendation letter for candidate (name of the candidate). Recommendation letters should be sent before the application deadline.

The total score of 100 for the selection includes 40 points for the titles of the candidates and 60 for the oral exam. The committee will first evaluate the titles of the candidates. Candidates with a score below 25/40 will not be admitted to the oral exam. The list of candidates admitted to the oral exam will be announced on June 1 (to be confirmed) at the latest on the PhD Web site.

The oral exams will take place starting on June 11, 2019. In the case of candidates living more than 500 km. far from Rome, the admission committee can do the oral exam at a distance by audio and video conference (e.g. Skype) using suitable procedures to ascertain the identity of the candidate.
