Mathematical Physics in Mathematics and in Physics.
Quantum and Operator Algebraic Aspects

This is the first announcement of a conference to be held in

Siena, Certosa di Pontignano, June 20 - 25, 2000.

The conference will be centred around the interplay between Mathematics and Physics, mainly with reference to Operator Algebras and Quantum Field Theory, but there will be talks on other various subjects in Mathematical Physics.

The Certosa di Pontignano is a splendid 15th century building in the countryside near Siena.

This conference will be dedicated to Sergio Doplicher and John E. Roberts on the occasion of their 60th birthday. A social dinner will be organized on Thursday, June 22.

Invited speakers include:

J. Boeckenhauer, D. Buchholz, A. Connes*, K. Fredenhagen*, G. Gallavotti, U. Haagerup*, M. Izumi, A. Jaffe, V. Jones*, Y. Kawahigashi, M. Mueger, G. Pedersen*, S. Popa, H.-K. Rehren, M. Rieffel, I. Singer, R. Stora, E. Stoermer, M. Takesaki, D. Voiculescu, R. Verch, L. Woronowicz.

Those wishing to participate should write to:

The lecture room at the Certosa is relatively small and can accommodate at most 110 participants. Concerning hotel reservations, participants will be asked to contact an organization in Siena that will book accomodation for them. The city of Siena is overcrowded in this period. For these reasons those wishing to participate should write as soon as possible, but in any case before April 15, 2000.
