A functional analytic approach to multi-modal periodic trajectories in Fermi-Pasta-Ulam chains

ABSTRACT:

The The Fermi Pasta Ulam oscillator chain with periodic boundary conditions and n particles admits travelling waves and other type of periodic solutions which are of interest in the study of thermalization. We shall frame the problem in a functional--analytic context and give conditions for the existence of those solutions which are genuinely multi modal.
