Kinetic theory of weakly nonlinear wave equations

ABSTRACT:

Weakly anharmonic crystals, the weakly nonlinear Schroedinger equation, and other wave equations of Hamiltonian form are very well approximated by the kinetic Peierls equation. We discuss (i) the microscopic derivation of such a kinetic equation and (ii) the application to energy transport in weakly anharmonic chains.
