ABSTRACT:

I report on joint work with Karel Netocny for understanding the thermodynamical content of nonequilibrium fluctuations. Close to equilibrium the entropy production governs it all (via variational entropy production principles and via the McLennan-Zubarev formalism). Further from equilibrium, the joint density-current large deviations point to the important time-symmetric sector and to the novel notion of dynamical activity or traffic.
