-------------------- Tickets for public transportation in Rome: a) ticket train for going from the airport of Roma Fiumicino to the railway station of Roma Termini (14 euro) or of Roma Tiburtina (8 euro) or of Roma Ostiense (8 euro). b) two CIS tickets (16+16 euro) for two weeks of travelling (bus, metro) in Rome. Alternatively, there are tickets for 75 minutes (BIT, 1 euro), one day (BIG, 4 euro), three days (BTI, 11 euro) travelling (bus, metro) in Rome. c) ticket train for going from the railway station of Roma Termini (14 euro) or of Roma Tiburtina (8 euro) or of Roma Ostiense (8 euro) to the airport of Roma Fiumicino ----------------------------- ARRIVAL in Rome: Sunday September 19 If your flight arrives in "Fiumicino aeroporto", then go by foot to the near railway station and buy a ticket (in shops or suitable machines near the platforms) for catching (ALTERNATIVE 1: FM1) at 5:57, 6:27, 6:57, ..., 23:27 (one each 30 minutes) FM1 trains with destination the railway station "Roma Tiburtina" (45 minutes of travel). An intermediate railway station is "Roma Ostiense" (30 minutes of travel). The price of the FM1 train ticket from the airport is 8 euro, independently if your destination is Roma Tiburtina or Roma Ostiense. (ALTERNATIVE 2: no-stop Leonardo Express) at 6:37, 7:07, 7:37, ..., 23:37 (one each 30 minutes) no-stop trains with destination the railway station "Roma Termini" (30 minutes of travel). The price of the ticket is 14 euro. Notice that very near to the railway station "Roma Tiburtina", by a subway connection, there is the "METRO B station Tiburtina". Near to the railway station "Roma Ostiense", by a subway connection, there is the "METRO B station Piramide". Near the railway station "Roma Termini", there are the "METRO B station Termini" and the "METRO A station Termini" ("Near" in the latter case, now in 2010, is not really true, since there are works in progress for the proportionment of the Termini station to the third line of the metro, the C line, under construction; so it is a bit long, tortuous way to reach the underground Metro A,B Termini stations and in particular Metro A Termini station). In the METRO B stations Tiburtina, Piramide, Termini and in the METRO A station Termini buy a "week in Rome (CIS)" ticket (16 euro), (in shops or suitable machines near the entrance of the stations) and then you can go (by Bus or METRO) everywhere in Rome. For instance the not italian guest professors can go to METRO B station Cavour which is near their hotel, and the students can go (by changing in Termini from METRO B to METRO A, if necessary) to the METRO A station Anagnina, and then, from there, with the Bus 046 (first bus: 05:30; last bus: 24:00), or with the bus 504 (only in working days), or with the bus 20 (last bus: 24:00) to their dormitories. REMARK: METRO A and B work from 05:30 to 23:30 (last departures from the capolinea stations Laurentina, Rebibbia, Anagnina, Battistini at 23:30). On friday and saturday evening the metro works until after midnight, and precisely until 01:30. REMARK: You have to by-machine-authenticate the "week in Rome" CIS ticket by entering it in the suitable "tornelli" at the entrance of the METRO stations only the first time you catch the metro, or soon after you have catched your first bus, in the suitable yellow little boxes inside the bus. The other times you will catch a bus or metro you have only to exhibit it. The CIS ticket will be valid exactly for a week from the date stamped on it in the moment of the by-machine-authentication. REMARK: You have to by-machine-authenticate the train tickets (either the 8 euro or the 14 euro train ticket cited above, or any other train ticket) in yellow little boxes near the platforms before catching the train. DEPARTURE from Rome: Sunday October 3 If your flight leaves from Fiumicino aeroporto, then go to the railway stations Roma Tiburtina, Roma Ostiense or Roma Termini, buy a ticket (in shops or suitable machines near the platforms) for the Fiumicino aeroporto, and catch (ALTERNATIVE 1: FM1) at 5:05, 5:33, 6:03, ..., 22:03, 22:33 (one each 30 minutes) FM1 trains from Roma Tiburtina, platform 6 (45 minutes of travel) or at 5:20, 5:48, 6:18, ..., 22:18, 22:48 (one each 30 minutes) FM1 trains from Roma Ostiense, platform 12 (30 minutes of travel). The price of the ticket for the airport is 8 euro, independently if the provenance is Roma Tiburtina or Roma Ostiense. (ALTERNATIVE 2: no-stop Leonardo Express) at 5:52, 6:22, 6:52, ..., 22:52 (one each 30 minutes) no-stop trains from Roma Termini (30 minutes of travel). The price of the ticket for the airport is 14 euro. REMARK: Probably there are some bus connecting Fiumicino aeroporto with the Roma Termini railway station during the night REMARK: Finally note that for arrival in Rome and/or departure from Rome in working dates the above cited public transportation is doubly frequent. ----------- For arrival and/or departure in the Ciampino airport: The Ciampino airport is connected by white bus with the square in front of the railwaystation of Ciampino and with the bus-passage number 1 near METRO A station Anagnina. The cost of the ticket is at most 1,20 euro. First and last departures from METRO A Anagnina: 07:20(on sunday)-6:30 (in working days) and 23:10, respectively. Some of the departures from METRO A Anagnina also stop in the railwaystation of Ciampino. From the the railwaystation of Ciampino you can go by train to the Roma Termini railway station. (For more details contact the organizer of the Rome part). ------------------ OTHER REMARKS: From the railway station Roma Termini you can go by line FM4 trains in half an hour to visit Frascati, or, in a little more time, Albano (little towns cited by the russian writer Gogol in his tale "Roma"). Very near to METRO B station Piramide there is the metro-train for the sea nearest to Rome (Ostia). Better seas (Anzio, Nettuno, Minturno-Scauri) can be reached by line FM7 trains from the railway station Roma Termini.
