The realization of high-speed, high performance, cost-effective, reliable and transparent networking require new approaches, based on sophisticated algorithmic techniques. The main objective of this project is to train young researchers in such a way they will be able to design, analyze, and experimentally test novel approximation and randomized algorithms that will allow to improve the efficient use of advanced networking technologies, with special emphasis on Optical Networks, Radio Networks, and Satellite-Based Systems. To achieve above goals, a number of young researchers will be exposed to a level-of-excellence research programme that will fully exploit the use of randomized and approximation techniques to obtain efficient solutions to the algorithmic problems arising by the efficient use of the networking technologies mentioned above. The convergence of several issues gives rise to complementary research and training areas: from theory to software tools, from application to performance estimation. Moreover, because of the recent impressive advances in approximation and randomization techniques, there is a urgent need for theoretical and applied research so as to take full advantage of the new advanced techniques, to exploit their capabilities and to understand their properties. Further, there is a need to educate more people to understand, accept, and use approximation and randomization techniques in their work on Communication Networks. This project creates a network with six partners who have recognized expertise spanning the breadth of the domain described above. The main objective of the Training Programme is to educate young researchers in such a way they will be able to design, analyze, and experimentally test novel methods that will allow to improve the efficient use of advanced networking technologies, with special emphasis on Optical Networks, Radio Networks and Satellite Systems. The network brings together sites from different countries that are known for their excellence in research and for the high quality of their doctoral programs. The complementary expertises of the sites will allow the interdisciplinary training, strongly required in the area of research of this project. Meetings, Workshops and Training Institutes will be organized. |
